Experience with Orinoco wireless card? - Mac Networking

I'm looking for a wireless card I can put in my PowerBook G3 (Wallstreet model) to allow it to use my AirPort network. I found the ORiNOCO Turbo Gold 11Mbps Wireless PC Card (128RC4) on MacConnection for a pretty good price, but know nothing about it. Will it work well for this? Any other recommendations? Thanks in advance! -- -Thomas e-mail me at thomasareed at philadelphia.net minus phil...

    Thomas-

I have the Orinoco Silver card. OS 9.2.2 recognizes it as an Apple Airport
card, but OS X doesn't see it all. There is a driver at SourceForge, but I
have had limited success with it.

I found an Asante "FriendlyNET" PCMICA wireless adapter at the Apple store
that came with both OS 8+ and OS X drivers. It seems to work well. I don't
recall how much it costs, but may have been around $79.00.

The card is supported by Apple's Airport software.

Just to follow up on this subject, first thanks to everyone who
responded! Although many of you said the Orinoco card worked well, I
did receive a couple concerning reports from folks with the same system
(a Wallstreet) who had trouble getting it to work. And it seemed to be
a general agreement that I'd need an open-source driver to make it
    work.

I ended up going with a slightly more expensive card from Asante
(FriendlyNET AL5402-XG 802.11g Wireless Cardbus Adapter) which works
perfectly -- I just popped in in the card slot and was on the internet
in less than 30 seconds. No extra software needed. Of course, if you
don't have a CardBus slot, this card wouldn't be much use! :-)

It works in my PowerBook G3 Series (Lombard), so I would guess it should
work on your machine. Is this for System 9 or X? If the former, you can
use Apple's Airport software; if the latter, you have the choice of the
free Wirelessdriver driver (on Sourceforge) or the better IOXperts
    driver.
