export as PNG
Checking 300 DPI in the export dialogue still yeilds a 72 dpi image. It's
much larger in height and width and without resampling in Photoshop changing
to 300 yeilds the correct size. But why doesn't Illustrator create the file
as the correct size at 300 DPI at export?
Illustrator CS.

Re: export as PNG
I'm fairly sure that .png cannot hold dpi information in it's file format, so Photoshop uses the default of 72 when it opens.
It is the correct size, just use the "Image-Image Size" option in Photoshop, and uncheck "resample", then change the dpi to 300. You should be good to go.
To summarize: It's not a problem with Photoshop or Illustrator, it's a limitation of the file format.

Re: export as PNG
rrsose,
What application are you using to view the PNG? Note: Some applications open PNG files at 72 ppi, regardless of the resolution you specify. In such applications, the dimensions of the image will be altered. (For example, artwork saved at 150 ppi will be over twice as large as artwork saved at 72 ppi.) Therefore, only change the resolution when you know the target application supports non-72-ppi resolutions.

Wonder why Illustrator CS has check box options for DPI then?

As I wrote, this works fine. Just curious about the Export dialogue.

Re: export as PNG
Doesn't Illi CS have an export to Office feature that automatically exports the image to PNG at 300 dpi? I was checking out the tutorials in the studio and say that. Maybe you will want to use that and see what you get.

When I tried that, it didn't create the image at the proper size...reduced
it by exactly 50%.
