Exporting 4-state nav bar to Dreamworks Template

Default Exporting 4-state nav bar to Dreamworks Template

I've created a nav bar in Fireworks MX using 4-state buttons. How can I insert this nav bar into a Dreamweaver Template? I've successfully exported the nav bar as a single HTML file using document relative links and then inserted it into the Template file. This gives me a working nav bar with 2-state buttons. I've also successfully exported the identical nav bar using the Multiple HTML Files option. This gives me multiple HTML files in my site root. Inserting the main HTML file into the Template and then previewing locally gives me 404 errors, with the address bar of the browser showing addresses of the form I:\Site Files\Nexus_Marine_Test\Templates\Master_Button_2. htm. Copying the file Master_Button_2.htm into the Template directory just results in more broken links. How do I get this to work? A nice nav bar isn't much use if it won't work with a Template file.

You should never have any files in the Templates folder other than the
    template files themselves.
    > A nice nav bar isn't much use if it won't work with a Template file.
Of course. I make them all the time. But I never try to struggle with FW
HTML. I make the buttons, and then I build the page entirely in DMX by
inserting the upstate buttons and laying on the behaviors. It's so much
easier to do that way, in my opinion, and it doesn't matter whether I am
using a template page or not.

    Thanks for the reply, Murray.
Yes, the defined buttons are up, over, down, and over while down. But yes, that's right, after exporting the nav bar as a single HTML file to a DW3 (my current version) template, saving and updating, then previewing an updated page, I get the up and over states just fine, and the down state briefly when clicking of course. So I guess that's really 3-state buttons. But then when the new page comes up, the button doesn't stay down, because the new page doesn't know that that particular button belongs to it.

I don't have anything in the Templates folder except the template file. But DW can't sort out the path to find its buttons if I do the Multiple HTML File Export Option.

So you're telling me I should export the individual buttons, not as a nav bar, using Show Down on Load on the Properties box? Then what do I do? Can you suggest Tech Notes or other sources to read for info on this? I'm a new FW user, and was just blown away to find that an application essentially written to create nav bars can't.

Thanks for your help - so far you are doing better than tech support!

This reply wont solve your problem but you're not alone.
I have exactly the same problem exporting a 21 button nav bar from FWMX to DWMX.
Just one week ago I went through the same steps as you outlined.
When exporting as multiple HTML, all the links to my 21 site pages vanish.
At this point the only solution I foresee which requires a huge bundle of time is to drop the appropriate nav bar independantly into each page rather than the template. (the appropriate nav bar is indicated by the number in the file extension 1,2,3,etc. 1 = the first button 2= second button and so on) That's 21 drops for me then I will still have to reset 21 links on each page. There must be a simpler solution to this.

OK - let me be clear about this.

    1. FW HTML *will* work for this application.
    2. Adding the 'template' functionality to the picture will not affect the
    outcome mentioned in #1, above.
    3. The problems you are both having are related to the transport of the FW
    HTML into the DW page.
    4. The only way to solve such problems is to look at the code, since that
is what determines what happens on the page
    5. The *easy* way to build these nav bars is -

    a. Slice them in a checkerboard pattern (i.e., not assymmetric) of slices.
    b. Export the IMAGES only (one for each button's state) into your site
    c. Build the page in DW by entering Standard Mode, putting a table on the
page, inserting each button's up image in respective rows/columns of the
table, and use DW's NavBar functionality to specify the up, over, down, and
    over-while-down images/links.

Might it be possible for you to do it that way?
