sorry for my greeness. I want to save all my layers as one pdf file. Can this be done? And if not can I add pages to an illustrator document instead of creating layers?

There is no way of creating a multi-page PDF from within Illustrator without
    the multipage plugin from HotDoor.

Or, you might consider purchasing full Acrobat. This will allow individual Illustrator files (one for each saved layer) become multipage PDF's as well as files from other sources, if needed.
