exporting as BMP - Blurry - Macromedia Fireworks

This is probably unusual. I am creating simple graphics using dingbat fonts (1 color) and exporting them as .BMP to be used in a Windows program. I export with BMP 8 and 8 colors. The problem is that the resulting graphics are looking very blurry and my client says it is from all the shading. I tried setting the font to no anti-alias, but it looks awful, with jagged edges and hard to tell what the image is. I tried crisp anti-alias, but it still has shading that looks blurry on output of the BMP. Would resolution make any difference? ...

about dithering? Does anyone have any suggestions of what I might try

    Thanks

What operating system are you on? If windows, do you have the "Smooth edges
    of screen fonts" enabled?

Desktop > Right Click > Properties > Effects Tab

What font size is this happening at?

I am working on Windows XP. The font (a dingbat) is about 22pt. I have Effects
set to "Standard", but it is my client that is complaining about the blurriness
My client is viewing the BMP graphics I create in a Windows application on a
laptop and is complaining about how blurry they are. Could it be their laptop
    monitor

    Thanks

Yes, it very well could be. Laptop having LCD display panels have a
"native" resolution. Setting the resolution to anything else, can result in
    blurriness due to scaling artifacts.
