exporting from Max - Macromedia Director 3D

Hi, Is there information anywhere about what is supported when exporting 3D Max files to shockwave 3D? I have a Max animation that has been doing strange things when exported to Director. Parts of the animation work, others don't. Is it better not to group models in Max? I tried ungrouping models and it seemed to change the way it exported in terms of how it worked in Director, but still did not work properly. Thanks in advance....

    Default exporting from Max

    Hi,

Is there information anywhere about what is supported when exporting 3D
Max files to shockwave 3D? I have a Max animation that has been doing
strange things when exported to Director. Parts of the animation work,
others don't. Is it better not to group models in Max? I tried
ungrouping models and it seemed to change the way it exported in terms
of how it worked in Director, but still did not work properly.

    Thanks in advance.

    Default Re: exporting from Max

    Few tips & tricks:
    1) Shockwave 3D supports only the animation of meshes.
    2) Shockwave 3D handles two different kinds of motion: bulk motion and
    bones-based motion.
    3) Use care when grouping models used in bones animation. Bone animation from
a grouped bone model is not compatible with that from an ungrouped bone model.
    4) Pay special attention to hierarchy collapsing with groups of objects, each
    with their own animation.
    5) Shockwave 3D represents the animation of a skeleton as a single motion
composed of many tracks, one for each bone.
    6) Don't create large rotations with few Keyframes.
    7) Animated mesh deformation is not exported. Use Lingo scripting to do this.
    8) Animation created with any 3D Studio MAX modifiers and morphing tools is
    not exported.
    9) Mesh animation driven by the Linked XForm controller are not exported.
    10) Set the Sampling Interval and Animation Quality controls to preserve the
required detail of motion while meeting space constraints. My advice is to set
the Animation Quality to 50 at least.

    cheers
