exporting FW PNG for print press
I hope some one can help me.I used FW to design a gift card for professional
printing elsewhere. I can't seem to get the PNG to open up in any of my
other software programs (Photoshop 5.5, Illustrator 8, CorelDraw or
PhotoPaint). What can I do with this to get it set up for print production?
They say that can't work with a PNG.
Thank you.

open it in another app and convert it to CMYK. Don't be surprised when
the colors change a bit.

Re: exporting FW PNG for print press
better still (maybe!) export it to illustrator from fireworks as illustrator format (check your help file) and ask the printers for the specs e.g. what dpi, and whether they will take eps, tif or what. hopefully any images you may have are of high enough resolution for printing and not screen res (i.e. 72dpi). you may have some transparency issues or bledning issues in which case might have to resort to exporting as tiff (at the appropriate resolution) as mentioned in the previous post.
basically if you want to do print work then do it in a print app. if you had freehand it would be easier to transfer any vector work from FW to there, but if your pics arent up to scratch resolution wise (andf you haven't got higher res originals) then you're buggered.

Re: exporting FW PNG for print press
Thanks very much for your advice. I know I shouldn't use FW for print stuff,
but it's so easy, it's like a default for me. Anyway, turns out my file
opened just fine for the printer and she can use as is...
Boy, I know now why I stopped doing print work.
