Exporting guides to Photoshop
When I export an Illustrator file with layers to photoshop... the guides disappear. Is there something I need to set before exporting to make sure they can appear?

You can unlock your guides, then release them, making them unstroked and unfilled paths. Stroke them and put them on their own layer , called "Guides". They won't end up as guides in Photoshop, but you will be able to see them are recreate them, then delete the "Guides" layer.
