exporting/saving only selected objects??? - Adobe Illustrator Windows

Is it possible to save or export only selected objects in an Illustrator doent? It would really help me a lot because I often have a lot of objects in my doent and I only want to export parts of it to my plotter. I have tried locking or hiding objects that I don´t want to export/save to my plotter program, but that doesn´t work. Any ideas? Thanks y´all! PS. By the way, this forum ROCKS! You guys have really helped me solving my hardest, weirdest, oldest, hard-to-shake-problems....

    Nader,

I don't know of any way to do what you describe, but with a few quick keyboard shortcuts, you could copy/paste the selected objects to a new doent and plot...

With the desired objects selected: Ctrl+C, (copy); Ctrl+N, (new doent); Ctrl+F, (paste in front). Then whatever you do to export/save to your plotter...

Draw a rectangle over the area you want to export, select it, and go to
objects, crop area, make. Then you will only export whats inside the
    rectangle.

Double click with the artboard tool on the object you want. It makes an artboard around your object. You can easily export only artboards. this is cs 4+ though.

Illustrator is really great, but it's because of simple situations like these that I still use Freehand to do some works.
