Default Exporting to a High Quality file for print

Ok, i have a completed image. the problem im having is that i created it to be printed from another computer without Illustrator and i cant figure out a file type to save it as that keeps all the quality. the file will most likly be brought up in MS Word. what file type would keep all the quality?

    lark,

    All the quality?

If you want to uphold enough quality for a word processing programme such as Worst, you may export in rasterized format with high resolution (such as 300 for colour); BMP and TIFF hold better colours than JPEG (which may be noticeable), but they make larger files; you can look at the file sizes and decide.

Remember to use RGB in JPEG/TIFF: word processing programmes dislike CMYK. And add a rectangle just round the artwork unless it is rectangular: the rasterization tends to snip off the outermost parts.

shawn, I am afraid Worst dislikes PDF too.

I know word doesnt take PDF, i did try that already too. I did make it in CMYK so maybe thats why it comes out crappy when saved as jpg and everything else. the most noticable problems are thin white lines being used in some of my image that dissapear when saved as other file types. ill try saving as RGB and see if that works. thanks!

    lark,

If everything else fails, you may try enlarging the image and Save for Web as GIF; the resolution is 72, but the final image should be 300 when resized in Worst.

yep, the CMYK/RGB thing made ALL the difference!! Saving a CMYK as TIF or BMP makes it totally go to crap. converting to RGB before saving as TIF or BMP keeps it in great quality

"Worst..." hahahaha, that's good. Hadn't heard that one yet.

Sadly, the real problem is that far too many people try to output
    graphics from Word at all.

Word is a *word processor* not a page layout application. That means
it's for typing, for writing, for editing what you've typed. Despite
Microsoft's assurances to the contrary it is *not* for creating layouts
of any sort. If people want to print layouts with graphics and such they
should be using proper software (which would, of course, support EPS,
    PDF and other professional formats).

Of course we live in the real world, where people think that all they
need to do professional design & layout (and sell their services as
such!) is Word and a pirated copy of Photoshop... sigh...
