Exporting to EPS, issue with PS fonts
Disclaimer: I am a newbie, running WinXP, Freehand MX and Illustrator 10.
So I downloaded and installed a free Postscript font called Cameo from
[L=here.]http://moorstation.org/typoasis/type1/cameo.zip[/L]
In Freehand I create a new file. It has 1 paragraph
of text. For this text, I have used the PostScript font cameo. I then
export the file in EPS format, and I choose to include the font files.
I then try to open this file in Adobe Illustrator and it does a
default replacement because it cannot find the font I used. I am
confused.
from the other direction...

I then try to open this file in Macromedia Freehand and it does not
let me edit the text and it shows up as TrueType Arial not
PostScript Cameo as it should. I am confused.
QUESTION: How do I easily export EPS files from Freehand, with
all requisite fonts self-contained, so that anybody can open my
EPS files and be able to fully edit them without error.
note: I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but on this WinXP
system I do NOT have any PostScript printers installed.
note2: my ultimate goal is to be able to send this file off to a
professional printing company for CD labels, etc..
Thanks.

Re: Exporting to EPS, issue with PS fonts
When you export an EPS with fonts included this only helps when printing
the EPS itself either directly or when placed into a page layout program
(Xpress, InDesign). It does this by sending the Font information to the
RIP while printing. Illustrator is not placing the EPS it is OPENING
the eps and trying to edit it. To do this you need the font installed
on the system.

Re: Exporting to EPS, issue with PS fonts
Rich--thanks for the quick reply. The thing is, I am exporting and opening on
the exact same computer with Cameo, Freehand, and Illustrator installed. And
the problem happens both ways. What am I missing?
