External HD disappeared (OSX) - Mac Networking

Hello all, I recently made the jump from 9.2.2 to 10.2 and everything was rosy at first. After about 10 days my external hard drive stopped mounting. On startup I get a message that says "A disk attempting to mount as unknown has failed verification" etc. and tells me to launch disk utility. Disk utility sees the drive but won't let me repair or verify the drive (those buttons are not highlighted) Here are the things I have tried already (And didn't work) Upgrading to 10.2.6 Repairing the disk permissions Downloading and installing the latest drivers rebooting in 9.2.2 to ...

    Default External HD disappeared (OSX)

Hello all, I recently made the jump from 9.2.2 to 10.2 and everything was rosy
at first. After about 10 days my external hard drive stopped mounting. On
startup I get a message that says "A disk attempting to mount as unknown has
failed verification" etc. and tells me to launch disk utility. Disk utility
sees the drive but won't let me repair or verify the drive (those buttons are
    not highlighted)

Here are the things I have tried already (And didn't work)

    Upgrading to 10.2.6
    Repairing the disk permissions
Downloading and installing the latest drivers
rebooting in 9.2.2 to see if that would recognize it(no good, it wanted to
    initialize)

Any advice? There is some stuff on that drive I need. Thanks in advance

get "Disk Warrior", your disk's directory catalog is hosed, "Disk Util"
won't be able to fix it. OSX has a nack for corrupting b-tree, remember
b-tree when Apple first introduced HFS Extended format (I think back in
8.x, it crashed drives back then too)

You should turn on Journaling in OSX file system, I found Journaling
    help a lot.

Open Terminal, under "root" type in:

df --> df return a list of /dev , note which is yuor dsk or disks (if
you want to turn journaling on all of them. then type in:

    diskutil enableJournal /dev/diskxsx
