    MS-

The Optio S comes with a charger that holds one battery. That way, you can
have a second battery on charge while using the first. I don't remember how
long it takes to fully charge, but I seem to recall reading 4 hours.

Somewhere I read that one battery should last for well over a hundred pictures,
depending on what percentage use flash. If you are unlikely to take that many
pictures in one session, the spare battery may not be needed.

I found my spare battery at Ritz, a week after I bought the camera there. The
    price was US$39.99.

On a side note, a friend purchased the similar Casio camera after I had shown
him my Pentax. Although they are reported to share technology between them,
there is little else in common. The batteries are definitely different!

in the manual it says recharging time is up to 100 minutes, well under
2 hours. Yes, they say one charge lasts for 150 pics with 50% of them
using flash - but only if you switch off the display! what is the use
of taking photos without using the display, to see how the come
    out....
