Default Extremely slow printing on W2k3 server

We have a W2k3 member server in a W2k3 domain, which is acting as a print
    server.(new install)
    All hotfixes are loaded!

a basic word document with a few lines and no graphics could take up to 2-3
    minutes!

The site has a vast range of hp printers, and a few cannon/ibm printers.

We are receiving no errors in the error logs, but print jobs are taking an
extremly long time to print to any printer model.

We have downloaded all latest drivers and updated printer firmware with no
    joy to the printng speed.

When jobs are added to the queue, the job size increments slowly in the
    queue.

We have move the spool file onto another partition which has at least 15gb's
free disk space and is empty...no joy.

    Any ideas or patches etc......

We have also checked the usual services running, anti virus running and
    other basic troubleshooting...

Any help or known issues would be appreciated.

    Ray,
is this server used for anything else or is it just a print server.
If it is used for other functions are those performing ok?

You may want to use System Monitor and monitor the servers statistics.
Many bottlenecks may exist and system monitor is a great way to
figure out what the bottleneck may be

If the server checks out then you may want to check the
    infrastructure.

Default Re: Extremely slow printing on W2k3 server

    Ray,
I had the same problem with my HP 4000 and HP 4500 printers when i migrated
over to SBS2003. What I found is that the default resolution in the latest
drivers from HP sets the resolution to 1200x1200. Go into your printer
properties and reset to 300x300 or 600x600 and you will see a noticable
    improvement in print speeds.
