Eye dropper issue

Does anyone know how to stop the eye drpper from changing text beyond the selection?
If this isn't clear, I will try and explain. If I am styling a lot of copy and wish to have a few words of each par in the bold version of the font, I would like to use the eye dropper to do it, however it more often than not it throws the rest of the paragraph into Times and increases the size. Is it a bug with the tool or is it my proplem?

You probably pick up the paragraph style as well.
Double click the tool in the toolbox.
