Default Failed to Export the PDF File

This is a first for me...
I'm working on a two-page document with four placed Photoshop files. The frames for the PSDs have drop shadows (Multiply, 60%).
Because of how the Oki C7200 printer works, I have to export the files in Acrobat 4 format. Acrobat 5 and 6 formats print black text as composite black while the Acrobat 4 prints with just black toner.
So, the problem: Whenever any of the psd files overlap, the file will not export and I get an error from InDesign: "Failed to Export the PDF file."
If they are not overlapping, they export just great.
I've been able to reproduce it multiple times now. I'm just lost as to what is happening. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Warren

    Hi Warren

I have had similar problems with tiff Images (Particularly with
transparent backgrounds) and even eps files. Yes it does appear to be
when they overlap, or when they are rotated at any angle.

Did you work out the problem? I notice that there were not too many
