Fatal error while re-installing Illustrator 10

    Default Fatal error while re-installing Illustrator 10

    Hi

    In trying to solve my launch (see earlier thread) problems I tried uninstalling and reinstalling AI.

    I now have an identical problem to and old achived thread of Sami Peltikatto - 12:30am Oct 24, 2003 Pacific. I will use his words with my sit explained:

    I tried many many times, all the same. It wont start. Then I decided to re-install it. I removed the Illustrator with Windows' "Add/Remove programs" -tool.

    After that, I dig out the Illustrator Cd and hit that in CD-Rom. Everything goes nice, I pick up what I need, the installation starts... but then: in the middle of the installation it stops and this error message appears:
    "Component transfer error
    Component: WindowsSys Files
    File Group: msvcrt
    File: <svMSVCRT>\
    Error: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."

    The file which is under installation is ADOIF_.PFM.

    In the old thread Ian Wright suggests reinstalling the O/S. Does anyone know what else I can do - or Sami if you are out there how did you fix it???

    Also can someone tell me how I link to an old thread in here to sav peolple the trouble of going through searches?

    Have you done an up-to-date virus scan?

    It's not clear from this or your previous thread which Windows version you are using, but XP (and perhaps W2K -- I don't know) will let you do a "repair" rather than a full OS reinstall if you boot up from the Windows CD-ROM.

    Also can someone tell me how I link to an old thread in here to sav peolple

    Latchet,

    Try copying the installation folder from the CD to the HDD and then
    installing from the HDD having re-booted into Safe Mode

    Thanks Guys

    Running XP Pro.

    I have tried both suggestions and still no joy (to put it mildly!)

    This "msvcrt" thing doesn't seem to get fixed.

    Any other ideas anyone... PLEASE!

    As the error message is significantly different I am a bit hesitant to try this incase it causes another problem. I may try it as a last resort if noone else can help me.

    Do a search for "msvcrt.dll" and make sure there is a copy of it in the Windows\System 32 folder.

    If you don't have it or it is corrupted, I think that there are some sites on the web that you can download the file from.

    Thanks for the help. I'm at breaking point with this. I searched for msvcrt.dll and it is in the system 32 folder. I don't know how to test and see if its corrupt though.

    Anymore help woulod be greatfully received.
