FH MX and SpellCatcher X - Macromedia Freehand

I have noticed a conflict between FreeHand MX (v.11) and SpellCatcher X. FH disables SPX when using the option-cmd-space. I contacted the maker of SpellCatcher and this was his reply, Sounds like Freehand must use the (reserved by the OS, forbidden to be used by any other app, though many do) command-space or command-option-space keyboard shortcuts for a common function. See System Preferences, International, Input Menu tab, Options... button for the reason why apps should not be using these shortcuts. By turning off the input menu option SPX will stay active during your session....

Ah yes, time to reminisce. I remember the brouhaha back in the day when
Apple suddenly claimed ownership of those keyboard commands after they had
been in common use for _years_ in the major graphic design apps.

Photoshop, FreeHand, Illustrator and Acrobat still use command-space and
command-option-space for zooming in and out.

If you use two or more keyboard layouts, decide which operation you do more
times a day --zoom in and out in a graphics app or switch keyboard layouts.
You'll likely do what every other Mac user of graphic apps does -- turn off
the shortcuts for switching keyboard layouts.
