FH MX FONTS GONE WEST

Default FH MX FONTS GONE WEST

We have several newly purchased copies of Freehand MX none of which we can use
at all because of a font support issue that we can not resolve without help.

The problem is that existing fonts show up in the font list but appear on
screen as 'Geneva'. The fonts in question are Tech sans, Helvetica, times roman
    and many more.

We need these fonts for corporate customers so there is some urgency to find a
    solution.

We are running G4 Cube Macs with OS 9.2, 512meg ram ATM 4.56, we have had FH8
on these machines for some time with no problem so why this font issue now?

Ideas anyone to mve this along

    Hi aidy wan kenobe,

It sounds like you might be having a font ID conflict somewhere. I would
suggest taking Geneva out of your system and see what happens.

    Let me know,

Just one note. Geneva is a Mac system font. You can not remove it
    and have System 9 work.

May have found a solution but I still don't know what the problem is/was.

By removing the suitcases of suspect fonts from the font folder then changing
    the name slightly
(remove a space or add a full stop) then COPY this folder back into the system
    folder thus
creating new creation dates. On restarting MX font these fonts apear as
    normal. It requires
this on all font suitcases and sub groups but it works, dont ask me why, it
    just works.

ATM and all other settings remain unchanged.

I would be interested if you have any ideas as to what could have been the
    problem.

    Aidy,

Did you see this problem in other applications or just in FreeHand MX? Was
FreeHand 8 OK at this point?
Had you changed the name of your fonts at anytime in the past?

I am having a similar problem. I have Mac OS X 10.3.4 and Freehand MXa. I have
just loaded Franklin Gothic and Avenir to my system. They work fine with MS
Word and with Fireworks. They appear normally on the lists of fonts within
those two applications. However, in Freehand, Avenir is wacky in how it is
listed, though it seems to work fine. For example in the alphabetical list of
fonts, Avenir Heavy doesn't show up under A, it shows up as H Avenir Heavy,
with the H's. Franklin Gothic is also listed that way: H Franklin Gothic Heavy.
So, the font is not all in one place, it's all through the list. Franklin
Gothic doesn't work at all. If you click on Franklin Gothic it says Franklin
Gothic, but up above in that panel it says: Text Times 24 pt and what appears
when you type is Times. This is especially frustrating because I love Franklin
Gothic. However, I have also added two other fonts to my system, before I
upgraded to Mac OS X 10.3.4, namely Meta and Foundry Sans. They work fine and
are listed correctly. I tried the method suggested above (removing, changing
name slightly, adding a copy back into the font folder) and it didn't work at
all. I sure would love it if someone figured out what to do!
    thanks,
    Carolyn

That is perfectly normal for these Adobe fonts in Type 1 format; I've
never seen a version named otherwise. Some programs have the capability
of grouping fonts by family irrespective of how they're named, but FH
    isn't one of them.
