FHmxa EPS's placed in Quark 6.1
Just installed OSX10.3.5 and Quark 6.1 and Freehand MXa (on a 400Mhz G4 with
1GB RAM) and was shocked after placing 10 copies of a 600Kb (vector art) FHmx
EPS into a Quark document that Quark slowed down to 'unusable' re-draw speeds.
But after re-saving the EPS file on a coleagues mac as an illustrator EPS the
problem disappeared.
Now has Freehand EPS export got compatability problems with quark 6.1?? We're
kinda comitted to freehand at the moment (he says looking at 5 new boxes in
corner of office!)
I did notice a QuarkExpress.eps option in Freehand. Is this to cover the
problem???
Only other FHmxa faults I've noticed so far are some fonts cause crashes in
selection menu!

Re: FHmxa EPS's placed in Quark 6.1
This is coming from someone who has never used FHMX or Quark 6, but
FWIW...
I believe the Quark EPS export filter came about because of a need to
provide cross-platform preview headers, or something of that nature.
Also, for a while, FH EPS files were printing to all 4 plates from
Quark when the only color in them was black. It appears that MM made
other changes to the export filter as well, because it has been shown
over the years to be the most universally useful and compatible EPS
export that Freehand has, regardless of the target program. Definitely
give it a try. I use it for every EPS I build.
FreeHand has options for the bit depth of its EPS preview headers -
but the color previews are low res too, and I can't see why they would
cause a speed hit. See the Export tab of Preferences.
By any chance is this a very large (re: square inches of page) EPS?
Like a page background?
Interestingly, the only way that the preview headers for Quark EPS
exports can be changed is to manually modify the setting in the
preferences file. In other words, even though you set EPS previews to
black and white in Export Preferences, Quark EPS files will still have
color previews unless the prefs file is manually edited.
