What do you have chosen in your Elements updates area? Look under Edit>Preferences>Adobe Online. Unless you changed it after installing Elements, it defaults to checking online for updates every time Elements is launched. I think almost all of us change that setting to Never. There may have been one or two updates published in the last couple of years, but nothing anybody has ever missed. I think if you make that change it might clear up your problem. No guarantees, of course. :)

Also, if you have your browser set to 'automatically connect to the internet' when launched, it might be a little inconvenient if you were just wanting to refer to the 'onboard' html help files.

Do you have any shortcuts to web pages (e.g. favourites) in the 'browser area'. If you do, you could be connecting to update the link.
