Default File Encryption in Windows XP

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to encrypt a file in Windows XP?
I can do "Properties>Advanced>Encrypt contents to secure
Data" but the "Encrypt contents to secure Data" is in
feint font and the box cannot be ticked.
My hard drive is formatted in two partitions both with
    NTFS.
The computer is accessed by two users both with password
    access. Guest user is diabled.
Does any one have any suggestions?

    Kind Regards,
    Jason Newell.

    Hi Jason,

can you try and create directory e.g. "c:\temp\test". Close explorer with
which you created new folder (c:\temp\test). Then try to run this command
    line on it:

    cipher /e "c:\temp\test"

This command line option for Encryption. Let us know if this works and if
not what error do you get.

I tried that and cipher was not a recognised internal or
    external command

    Thank you Jupiter.
I am running Windows XP Home Edition and not Pro.
This must be the reason for my dilema.

    Kind regards,
    Jason.
