    Default File Search Extension?

I know you can search for phrases within a file's code, but what if I have
defined an extremely large site in Dreamweaver with thousands of files in it
and then I search for a file with the phrase "contact" in it? Is there a way
to do this in Dreamweaver or is there an extension that would add this
    functionality?

You can select "Entire Current Local Site" in the Find in drop down list in the Find and Replace dialog. Or are you asking for something more/different than that option?

    danilocelic,

That would give me a list of all files that had my search phrase in the file's
code. Instead what I want is a list of files that have my search phrase in the
file name, not in the file's code. So I'm searching for the name of a file,
not searching for all files with a phrase in its code.

I see, your original post made no mention that you wanted to search the file not, not the file itself. Given that, I worte an extension a while ago that does allow for searching based upon file name. You can specify the site to search, what to find, do case insensitive search, include folder names, and use basic regular expressions to find a file. Find it here (commercial but not much - $2):

Of course, you could always use your operating system's Find and specify the folder for you site. Fairly easy to do in Windows, open the folder for you site in Windows Exploer, hit CTRL+F and then enter in the file name or word with the file name that you want to find. Don't know how to do the same operation on a Mac, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't available.

    Sorry, that should say:
I see, your original post made no mention that you wanted to search the file name, not within the file itself.

    Default Re: File Search Extension?

    I bought it.
That is exactly what I was looking for, thanks.

    Questions:
    1. Is there any way to make a keyboard shortcut to make that search come up
instead of having to click Commands>CommunityMX>FindAFile ? Or to have it
appear in my top toolbar of Favorite Objects.

    Suggestions:
    1. Status Bar so that people know it is searching your site, not crashing.
    2. Make the window resizeable in case the path is very long and you cant
see the whole path in the currently static width window.

You should be able to assign a keyboard short cut:
    Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts
You'll need to create a duplicate of your shortcuts if you haven't defined or changes any short cuts before. Click the leftmost button on the upper right to do so.

Then under Commands select Menu commands, and drill down into Commands -> Community MX -> Find a file. Assign your short cut. It doesn't let you use a short cut that is already being used, so if you want to use something that is already in use, you'll need to find it and remove it before assigning the short cut to this command.

I wrote that extension over 4 years ago and haven't touched it since. If I make any updates I'll be sure to think about these suggestions. Thanks for the feedback.
