File sharing
I have a windows xp home machine(A) and a windows pro
machine(B). I have setup home netweoking on both the
computers. They can look at each other, ping each other
successfuly. I have created shareon both the machines and
the machine A (XP Home) can access the share folders of
Machine B (XP PRO), but the vice-versa is not true.
Machine B cannot access the share folder on Machine A.
Another problem which i noticed is that If I am logged on
Machine A and click it's Own share folder. It gives the
following error message. "Not enough server storgae to
process the command." It is the same message I get from
Machine B trying to access Machine A. I checked all the
connections (TCP/IP, File share Networks..)

File Sharing
I have a small network. I have a WINXP Home machine and
2 Window98 machines. If I create a file in Word on the Xp
machine the WIN98 machines get a "Open as Read Only'
message. If the WIN98 machines create the document the XP
machine can open and modify it but as soon as the XP
machine saves it I get the "Read Only message again on
the Win98 machine. The files are being saved on the XP
machine and ahve the file sharing set to "Allow network
users to change my files".
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks:

file sharing
We have a network with both win 98 and win XP machines.
Our domain server is a win 2000 server . We cannot get
the newer machines running XP to file share with the
win98 machines. We share a folder on the Xp machine and
the only other users on the network that can see it are
the Win XP users.
Thanks in advance

longer than 12 characters. If it is, 98 won't be able to see it.

File Sharing
I just built a new load of Windows XP Pro SP1 on a
laptop. Set up with 3 partitions -- system/programs on
the first, data on the second, backups on the third.
Want to share the third partition so I can move backup
files to a larger machine since some are too large to
burn to CD efficiently.
For this scenario, I want the larger machine to access
the laptop. Further, I want to require a valid userid
and password to be entered so that only authorized people
can initiate this action.
I had this on Win 2000 Pro, but can't seem to figure out
how to do it on XP Pro.
Any help?
Thanks,
John

Re: File Sharing
Is a firewall involved in this (possibly XP's builtin one)?

Re: File Sharing
Greetings --
On the WinXP PC, create local user account(s), with non-blank
password(s), that have the desired access privileges to the desired
shares. Log on to the other PCs using those account(s), and you will
be able to access the designated shares, provided your network is
configured properly.
Usually, WinXP's Networking Wizard makes it simple and painless --
almost entirely automatic, in fact. There's a lot of useful,
easy-to-follow information in WinXP's Help & Support files, and here:

Re: File Sharing
Thanks. Actually, I use ZoneAlarm Pro and dropped it to ensure it was not
the problem.
