Default File size increased enormously after conversion of Word doc to pdf

I have a problem, when converting a word document (Word XP, os Windows XP) that is only 90Kb, it is turning out with a file size of 746Kb when converted to pdf. I am using Acrobat 5.0, with conversion settings set to screen (default settings). I use Adobe Distiller to convert the document. I don't normally have this problem. There are no graphics in the document except there is possibly word drawing objects in it.
Do you have any suggestions. I have another document that is also converting to an extremely large file size too.

Use the "PDF Consultant" in 5 to tell you what is taking up so much space.

Even very small drawings, if they have transparency, will cause the file size to jump. Try removing the drawing objects and create a new PDF to test.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't looked at PDF consultant before. There was a small logo (image) in the file - when I removed it, it made all the difference. The logo was required, so I used a new image and now the file is saving at 27Kb (what an amazing differnce) - it may have been that the original image was a transparent gif - I replaced it with a jpg. Thanks again.
