Default File Size issues with placed graphics

    hi,

I have a .psd file being placed 3 times in the same document using different alpha channels and clipping mask. I decided to embed the file(s). Since the image is place 3 times, I had to select each one and embed... In doing so, the file size for the InDesign Document took all 3 embeds into account. Since it is one file, why does it have to be embedded 3 times and why did it make the file size the total of the original InDesign File, plus the image 3 times...???

    thanks!!!

It's there three times so it's three images.

But I gotta ask...why in the world are you embedding them?

    hi Bob,

    Don't worry.....for regular work, I would never embed ;-)

I'm actually a trainer and this is an area a client of mine needs to focus on..Placing psd's, layer comps, layer options, clipping paths...etc...

In an effort to demo the reasons why not to embed..... hence file size issues, I was working on a tutorial file with alpha and clipping masks etc..., when I too became stumped at why one image in the document would add file size every-time I placed. It would make more sense, since it's only one file to add it once, not 3 times.... So, that is why I seeked out some info..

I thank you for taking the time to answer me...

It makes perfect sense to me. Three times embedded is three separate
graphics. Anything that's actually in the document is going to add to
    the file size.

I guess when you look at it that way, it does make sense.
    thanks!!
