How would one go about editing file summary attributes? i.e Title, Subject, Author, Comments, etc... Is there a class or standard function for accessing them?

In MS Office, the attributes are accessible through the document object model. There's that "object" word again; you know what to do.
Check urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office for details.
