Files won't open - Macromedia Freehand

Hello, Current situation involves Freehand 10 on Windows XP. I try to open existing Freehand 10 files on the network and can't. Dialog box reads: 'Could not complete your request because an unknown command was encountered.' Other Freehand users in the building CAN OPEN THESE SAME FILES. All users have the same fonts. Some of these files did start as Macintosh files... but not all. Any help? We're dying on this one. EdB...

    Default Files won't open

    Hello,
Current situation involves Freehand 10 on Windows XP.

I try to open existing Freehand 10 files on the network and can't.

    Dialog box reads:
'Could not complete your request because an unknown command was encountered.'

Other Freehand users in the building CAN OPEN THESE SAME FILES.
All users have the same fonts.

Some of these files did start as Macintosh files... but not all.

Any help? We're dying on this one.

Will the files open if you first copy them to your local hard drive? You may
have a network issue. Virus protection can interfere with opening and saving
    FH files.

Judy's advice is good. Put together a list of which computers/users can open
the files, and which cannot. See if you can isolate the difference. If it's
just one PC that cannot open the file, try reinstalling.

Also, do a Google search for the error message in quotes. By doing that, I
    found this:

This is not the answer you want, but I've found that when working in FH, it is
wise to use "Save As" often. You may end up with 30 files before you're
through, but it's worth it because occasionally FH corrupts a file somehow --
usually when you think it's close to perfect! :-) If all you have is one
file, you're in trouble. If all you have is a series of backups, none of which
you can open later, you're in trouble. Make sure you can open #5 before
    deleting #1 - 4.
