    Default Filling complex area

I have a problem in filling a complex area. I have tried using both the lasso and direct select tool (with shift key) to select all the points along the perimeter. When I proceed to fill, the filled area does not follow the shape - some areas outside the shape also gets filled, and some area inside the shape does not get filled. What should I do ? Thanks in advance..........Mike

Yes, you are correct. The bleed would be easier to figure out just by taking the extra area, 10mm (235-225=10, 180-170=10) and dividing it by two...

Just to add, when I do the lasso or direct select, there are a few points outside the selected area that inevitably gets selected as well. These points appear to be the center points of rectangles drawn previously.

    Rajul,

You will find that complex paths (where the paths are not "simple" loops) will not fill when they cross with loops within loops even if it's a single path. This is how you make donuts bye the way with compound paths or for that matter when you use a single path, but by looping within loops and a fill.

    Rajul,

Use your Pencil tool to draw a loop with a non-standard path (like a New England island) so it will fill. Use the Direct selection tool and click/drag over a section of that path to collect multi-nodes, Now use the Direct Selection tool to drag those nodes across the other side of the path in such a way that. If the jags are not too "standard" but are really jaggie, you'll see that individual loops created will fill, but the other parts will not. The more complex this path is, even though continually in a continuous path, the more you'll see islands of fill from the same path.
