filling vector shape - Macromedia Fireworks

hi, i am trying to fill a custom vector shape. what i do is create a closed shape with the vector line tool, then i select all lines of the shape and modify->combine paths->join. at that moment i suppose i have the outline of a custom polygon. if i select the fill colour box and change the cross red line to some solid colour, i suppose it should change its filling to that solid color yet it remainsd in outline only. how do i make a custom vector shape to fill it? tnx...

Use the proper tool to draw it. ;-) This would be the Pen tool which is
just to the right of the line tool in the toolbar. With the Pen tool,
click and release without dragging then move your cirsor to the next
spot and click and release again and you will create straight path
segments. To close the shape you simply click back on the first point
you created. If you are in the correct spot a small circle will appear
to the right of the Pen cursor when you hover over the first point you
    created.

To see "preview" of the line segment you are currently drawing, go to
the Editing tab of the Preferences dialog (Edit>Preferences) and check
"Show Pen Preview" under Pen Options.

    HTH!

tnx, it worked fine. still wondering about what i described above, if i do as said, it imports in flash as predicted tough it does not render that way in fireworks. guess macromedia should take care of it or there will be inconsistencies

IMHO, the proper fix would be to remove the vector line tool from the
program. It's nearly useless, and its limited application is easily
misunderstood: it creates only line segments, not closed objects. The
Pen tool does the same thing, and a lot more.

Sheesh, I'm beginning to sound like my friend Murray... :-)
