Fills and Crashes
I've just spent three frustrating days reworking my Mac, trying to fix the fill and crash problem with Freehand MX.
I've opened new files (for the same illustration); downloaded and installed MXa; bought Norton Utiliites 8.0 which occupied my computer for the good part of one day doing "speed disk" and "disk repair," and still, when I opened up the aforementioned illustration and tried to fill grouped objects, there went Freehand again "unexpectedly quit."
I understand that MX now has this quirk where you can't fill grouped objects, but it shouldn't make the program "quit."
I'm sure this is the thousandth time this question has been posted - I can't be the only one with this problem.
I'm going to review the rest of the discussions, but if someone could PLEASE HELP!
Thanks,

one legacy document giving you problems? You probably have a corrupt
document. Try copying everything and pasting it into a new document.
Sometimes that clears corruption.
You can fill grouped objects either at the group level or at the object
level. You just have to learn new skills of subselecting and superselecting
until you select the objects you want. Assign keyboard shortcuts to these
commands.
In both FHMX and FHMXa, there's a bug in the Properties panel that will not
properly display fills and strokes of identical grouped objects when you
enable the preference, 'Changing objects changes defaults'. Unchecking that
preference helps immensely when editing groups.
