    Default Finally ... opera

    Gents:

Don't remember how many times I failed installing OPERA browser. Let's
say N-times ... This time, from the OPERA site I DLoaded ( with FireFox )
the Ubuntu version which turned out to be a *.deb file , and punched it up
on my desktop. Hit "open" for the Nth+1 time ... and get the same
inscrutable error message which to the casual lusr reads something
    like ...%^$!#((#@@##^)~)&!-... ???

"Flocked again" I think and grab 2x shot of WTurkey from the fridge
thinking I+machine have caught an early version of birdflue ... and then I
remember a comment that < DPKG > is the part of debian that makes the
entire distro unusable, so imagining that my DESKTOP is magically
    connected to the /home/myname directory I <copy> the debfile_name & type
    in a console:

    sudo dpkg -i (*).deb

.... and the blasted featherbrained sucker installs .........................

    I need another drink

Reading the Ubuntu Starter Guide would be helpful too.

You're suggesting MS stands for 'Mimick or Steal', right?

    Ms Wilson:

Pleased to help. Now if I ONLY had a clue howto generate an
"assertable" icon on my desktop for OPERA ( & Mathematica, & Aegis ... ) I
would go out drinking tonight instead of grading final-exams.
