Find in text finds nothing

Posted: 08-20-2004, 04:05 PM
InDesign 2.0.2 Win XP sp1

In a multipage document, searching the text using the find/change for a word finds nothing, but I know it’s in there. I can copy the text to word and find it there. I have tried all of the options under search (all documents, story, etc). I have tried having the text tool's curser in the text block (beginning, middle end of doc) I have tried highlighting all of the text and a few other attempts that just seem to produce nothing. Is this a fluke or and I just not as smart as the machine?

Do you possibly have a format set in your find? ("More options" in the find/change window)

What are the states of "Whole Word" and "Case Sensitive"? Are they having a bearing on the result?

Do you have any spaces after the word in the Find what: box?

Can it find any words at all?

Having no case sensitivity and trying both whole and partial word searches still reveals not what I am looking for. In a multi-page document with text and graphics I am looking for a word like Floyd. I ask to search for Floyd (no space after the word) —it will find nothing. Hard to believe since the document is about the Floyd River. I was just wondering if anyone had heard of anything like this.

Is there a little yellow triangle visible next to the Find box? If so, you need to click More Options and clear the options.

Could it be that you have search in selection selected, not search story or
search document?
