Find/Replace text
Using Indesign CS on Mac at work to create several large product catalogs - found that one of our price codes (in a text box under each product photo - 4 or 5 of which on each page) was off by one number. Opened all the sections in each catalog (9 sections) and did a find/replace in all documents to increase each price code (example "b5" to "b6", then working backwards "b4" to "b3" etc.).
Checking each page after we found that the codes had not increased by one but BY TEN ("b5" became "b26" etc.)
Is this a problem with the find/replace function?
Had to fix over 500 price codes one by one instead!

Re: Find/Replace text
I never heard of such a problem, and I have done the "backwards" find/replace on occasion. Are you sure you didn't have something plugged into the "replace" field that you shouldn't have? That maybe it was operator error?
Did you immediately do a replace all, or did you do a few "replaces" to make sure it worked correctly?
I am confused about you saying it was off by TEN. B5 to B26 is 21. Maybe I'm missing something.

Re: Find/Replace text
Gregory, I think you need to explain in more detail exactly what happened; I'm also confused. Did you make an automatic "replace all" in all cases without a trial first? Were the changes consistent (i.e,. did all b1 become b21; all b2, b22, etc.)? Please include at least one full example of what the code was before the replacement, and what it became after.
