Paul,

you might want to set your Flash Player to display "High" quality. You
can do this with a right-click and then in Quality set it to High.

Also, check your Font settings in your operating system. Turn on or off
the Anti-Aliasing to see if it has any effect.

That is all the advice I can give you.

Hi Paul, For that type of graphic (text and simple vector shapes) export
them as .swf format and then import them into Flash. You can also select
in Fireworks and from the Edit menu, select Copy As Vectors ( I think
it's called Copy Path Outlines on the PC) and then paste the graphics
into Flash.

Alternatively, you can save the menu as a .PNG file and then import that
.PNG into Flash. When importing, you'll get a Fireworks Import
Settings window. Be sure to set both the Objects and Text options to
"Keep all paths editable".

Either of those ways will allow you to still edit your text in Flash.
Exporting as a .gif won't let you do that.

As a rule of thumb, never import .gifs into Flash. Flash likes bitmaps
and png files. JPGs will work but you'll want to make sure the jpg is at
a higher resolution before importing.

hope that helps,
David

Yes, Flash likes 96 DPI. In fact, you should use 96DPI on your pngs, too,
to get them to look right in Flash. Dunno why, since a pixel is a pixel,
but this is how it works for me.

thanks for all of the suggestions, I really apprieciate it.

What fixed it is when converting to a symbol in flash you have to choose aligning the center point to to bottom left in the create symbol (F8) menu.

Thanks again for the suggestions

Hi Paul,

From the url you supplied and your original post, your concern was regarding
the quality of the menu items. That was caused because you used .gif images
and not vector text for your menus and it had nothing to do with the
registration point.

Changing the registration point couldn't have made the difference as the
only purpose of the registration point has is for targeting the symbol with
ActionScript. You may have changed the Center Point but that still wouldn't
affect the clarity of your graphics. It would only affect how the symbol is
transformed.

I'm glad that you got it fixed and my only reason for the follow up post is
to clarify for any new users reading who may be unfamiliar with the process
of getting Fireworks objects into Flash.

Do you have a url of the corrected menu?

David

url of correct images
http://www.cornerstonebankfl.com/design.htm

very wierd. My images always distort unless when I convert to a button symbol and use the bottom left as a registration point. I did some further research and there are other users that have experienced the same problem and came to the same solution. Strange but true...

Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions. It is very nice to to have help when faced with a frustrating problem, especially when you are on a deadline.
Hopefully I can return the favor in the future.
Thanks,
Paul
