    Finnur--

Next stop would be the Disk Utility where you should check and repair permissions. I'd try it from the HD first, and then from the Startup CD if that doesn't take care of it.

I'm afraid that Apple made some huge errors in this latest update, and it is affecting programs in lots of unexpected ways.

Yes, it can be baffling. I had all sorts of connectivity problems after upgrading to OSX.2.8, but no problems with any of the MX or MX 2004 applications.

Apple doesn't often have problems like this, but it seems there have been all sorts of unintended consequences from this update:

    Finnur-
Although I still haven't seen system specifics from you in *any* of your
posts, please try the below steps I've posted in the DW forum, which are
modified here for Fireworks MX 2004. There are specific files that need to
be deleted before reinstalling FWMX2004 to accurately verify what's
    happening.

/Applications/Macromedia Fireworks MX 2004/ (entire folder)
    /Library/Application Support/Macromedia/Fireworks 2004 Registration
    /Library/Application Support/Macrovision/ (entire folder)
    /Library/Preferences/Macrovision/ (entire folder)
    /Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Fireworks MX 2004 Preferences
    /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Macromedia/Fireworks MX 2004

Please delete the above files/folders, then do a fresh reinstallation, and
post back to either this thread or the one over in the DW forum with your
results, success or failure. Also include information on your system, it's
hard to quantify results without more information on what your particular
    hardware config may be.

Anyone else who's having this problem, please try the above as well!

If you installed the premature version of Mac OS 10.2.8 (the one that
was later recalled), then its uninstaller apparently does not do a
complete job. If you install the current 10.2.8 as a full clean install
(rather than atop the damaged version, or atop the reverted version)
then this seems to be working well.

Folks here in the shop are investigating for more details, but the path
right now seems to be doing a clean install (rather than partial) if you
had the premature version of 10.2.8 during those initial few days.

Computer: Power Mac G5. 1.6 MHz 1.2 Gb RAM
    Mac OS 10.2.8 (G5 version)
    Fireworks MX 2004 (registered version)

I have followed every step of the suggestions from Scott and others and I have even done a clean install of Mac OS X and then upgrade to 10.2.8. And fresh install of FW MX 2004. It seems imposible to get beyond ? Authentication starts? on my computer.

It is important to mention that G5 computers use a different version og 10.2.8 so the problem may be related to that factum as some users using 10.2.8 for G3 or G4 computers, have had a success at least with Dreamweaver MX 2004 and the solutions from Scott.

But, thanks for all suggestions and advices.

Hey, all (and Finnur- please jump in and correct me as appropriate)- I think
we fixed this problem, here's what we did so far. My current suspicion is
that some part of the process of reverting to an earlier version of OSX
*after* installing the original 10.2.8 update hosed some preference files.
    Deleting them seems to work.

    1) Delete /Library/Preferences/Macrovision/*
    2) Restart your machine
    3) Reinstall the MX2004 software (potentially not required- have heard two
reports of the steps above alone solving the problem)

If you have this problem, could you try the steps above and post to this
    thread your results? Thx!

This solved the problem, both for Fireworks MX 2004 and Dreamweaver MX 2004 !!
I only had to enter my license number and all went back to normal.

    Many thanks Scott
