Default Fireworks MX 2004 Won't Launch

After installing the application and trying to launch it I only get the splash screen. If I look at the task list I can see the application listed and a Macromedia Lic.exe running. What is the application looking for during the startup.

If you have virus protection running, turn it off and restart Fireworks.
If you are logged on as a user, log on as the machine admin and launch it.
If that works, it should work if you log in as the user.

If you had installed the premature version of 10.2.8 (the one which was
removed from distribution), then please be advised that the
archiving/revert process does not work completely. Info to help is here:

but have checked files, when i reinstall fireworks, it does not install the plist file!?? any ideas, would this cause it not to start?

plist/preference files on Macs are often created when the application itself
launches for the first time, so no- I'm not sure that would be the root
cause of this problem. can you please post more specifics on your
particular system here (and apologies if you already did earlier in the
thread- many many posts go by in a given day for us NNTP/newreader
    users...).

Have been using Macromedia studio ok, now whole suite with the exception of Fireworks is OK, not sure if its since the update to 10.2.8, as i've been on holiday, and just back using Fireworksbut as mentioned, i cannnot find plist file for Fireworks????? and have reinstalled to no avail
    Hope this clarifies the situation..

Typical, software always crashes when you want it most!
