Fireworks MX, frames, and a navbar - Macromedia Fireworks

I have a page with two frames -- a left one (thin) with a navbar and a right one (thick) with the content. If I click on a button in the left navbar to get to a page, it works great. No problems. However, the site also has some links in the content area to get to the same pages. I tried putting something in the affected pages' <body onLoad="..."> but it didn't work. Basically... Josh:

Sorry for the rant. Why are you using frames? You do know that this would
not be a problem if you were using a flat page, right? Do you know about
all the other problems you will inherit with frames?

I totally agree about frames :-) However, I am creating a website for someone else and they have requested frames. Putting ethical issues aside, is the problem I have described solvable? Thanks for your help!

Ethically, you have an obligation to inform and educate your client, too. I
do not allow my clients to make such decisions for me. They are usually
    amenable to logic.

Yes, there is a solution. Make the pages that load into the main body frame
set the proper button state. It seems you have tried to do this, but
failed. I suppose your implementation is flawed. Can you tell me how you
    tried?
