Fireworks popup menu issues. please help - Macromedia Fireworks

Hey I have been trying to make popup menus with submenus in fireworks. I have been able to create very nice menus relatively easily. However when I export to Dreamweaver the menu doesnt function properly when placed in a table or a layer. Then sub menus are placed about an inch below the parent menu. This doesn't happen when the menu is not placed in a layer or table but then locating the navbar on my page is an issue. If anyone has a solution I would love to hear it....

    Show me your code, please. It may be that you will have to abandon this
    method for menus - are you up for that?

    Here is the code from the page . I am going to upload the trial page to my server in a few minutes and I will post. the url will be www.rutgersprep.org/trial

    Oh, it's not impossible at all. But here are some caveats -

    The DW/FW pop-ups will add at least 35K of code overhead to the first page
    using them, as well as a large dynamic write to *each* page containing the
    menus.

    You should also know that they link to your files using doent relative
    links that are hardcoded in your javacript - not only are these links
    invisible to the DW link management routines (i.e., when you move a page in
    the site, you break the link), but worse, they are also invisible to the
    search engine spiders, and accessability (508) requirements. The only way to
    solve the second problem is to make sure that your pages have alternate,
    HTML-based navigation links on them.

    I am not fond of these menus (as you have no doubt guessed) and feel that it
    is important to know what you are getting into before you may devote much
    time to them.

    There are some excellent alternatives to these pop-ups that have none of
    these problems. Here are two methods that are very simple -

    http://www.projectseven.com/tutorials/menuing/mcloser/index.htm

    or

    http://www.projectseven.com/tutorials/auto_hide/index.htm

    Here is a method that is more 'hands on' but very slick and equally trouble
    free -

    http://www.youngpup.net/?request=/components/ypSlideOutMenus.xml

    ----------------

    The bottom line is that there are MUCH better ways to do these menus. It's
    likely that it's those better ways you have seen.

    Oh, one more thing, change this -

    <script language="JavaScript1.2">mmLoadMenus();</script>
    <map name="m_navbar_first_run">

    to this -

    <map name="m_navbar_first_run">

    and this -

    <body background="images/bground.jpg">
    <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">

    to this -

    <body background="images/bground.jpg">
    <script language="JavaScript1.2">mmLoadMenus();</script>
    <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">

    See, by having your call to the mmLoadMenus() in a table cell, you are in
    effect putting absolutely positioned page elements into a table and that's
    bad code. My fix has you move that call out of the table and place it flat
    on the page.

    I'm too am curious about popup menus. Would you consider the menus from the following sites to have the same problems as the popup menus created in Fireworks?

    http://popup.jscentral.com/

    and

    http://software.xfx.net/utilities/dmbuilder/

    Thanks for you help,

    one:

    Yes - definitely. Both of them are flawed in the sense that -

    1. They will break if you move or rename linked files.
    2. Their links are not spiderable.

    And in the case of the latter, a bit of Java code is invoked, I believe.
    Ewww...
