First attempt at Mathematica install ... failure
Gents:
Running U_5.10 ... my first attempt to install Mathematica failed badly.
Inserting the CD and asserting the installer_ BASH_script resulted in an
error message:
" ...unable to execute, bad interpreter, permission denied..."
This was after I < chmod 777...> everything in sight!
Then I discovered my CDROM_drive was physically LOCKED closed. Unopenable.
Eventually I found an "open" command which allowed me to retrieve the CD.
Not a promising start.

< sudo sh ./MathInstaller > did the trick. At least now the prgram CLAIMS
it's installed. Somewhere. I have yet to find the proggie ... it certainly
didn't take-the-trouble to produce and "assertable" icon on my desktop,
nor does it appear in my list of applications. Yep I tried re-booting!
More fishing around ...

typing < mathematica > in a terminal enables the program GUI. That's good
news , since the (site license) program is worth 4x the current value of
the fairly modern 2-Ghz system it runs on. Score 1_point for *nix
Hope to test Mathematica this week for "tweeks" suggested by Ubuntu NGs.
