Fixing pasted graphics
Hello all,
I've learned through this forum to always place graphics into my files, and I have done that ever since. However, the person who worked here before me pasted them in. She pasted them from different sources, mainly Corel Draw & dragging from the scanner, which basically just pasted it from the scanner. She did this in Pagemaker 6.0. She did not save what she was pasting from.
For the most part it wasn't a problem as they didn't cause me a problem and I never had to share the files. Now I want to use these files as ID files. I have opened the 6.0 in 6.5 and saved as 6.5, then opened in ID. I find that the graphics that were pasted years ago printed and looked fine in PM, but now are very pixelated on screen and in print in ID.
I think I know the answer to this question is dig up or recreate the graphic and place it, but does anyone have any suggestions for another way? Some of the old graphics are long gone. I still have access to the PM 6.0 file. I've been printing it and scanning it to place in ID, but that looses quality.
Thanks,
Sue

Re: Fixing pasted graphics
Susan,
One little thing you can do: Once converted to InDesign, set the Display Performance to High Quality. It might look a tad better, but basically you have nothing but a preview image to work from, and it is not going to look very good, nor print well.

Re: Fixing pasted graphics
For the vector stuff you could copy / paste to Illustrator or Corel Draw
and save as EPS. Place that in ID or copy and paste back from
Illustrator to ID.
For the raster images you could try creating a PDF and opening that in
Photoshop, crop, save and place in ID.

Re: Fixing pasted graphics
In addition to the suggestions of Mike and Bob, (if I remember correctly), you also have the option of using PM 6.5's ability to export embedded graphics. I no longer have PM installed, so I can't run you through the steps, but I'm reasonably certain it can be done.

Why it simply doesn't export the embedded graphic I cannot imagine.

Re: Fixing pasted graphics
Thanks guys!
I knew there wouldn't be an easy solve all solution, but you've given me some tips to save some of the graphics.
I appreciate it!
