Flash 9 Does Not Work- Tried EVERYTHING
I tried everything from uninstalling, using the standalone, deleting registry
keys, using the ocx files, EVERYTHING. I'm tired of "This is the answer" posts
on internet, which did not work for me, even though I follow the direction
word-for-word.
Anyone else share the feeling?
I can't use anything- youtube, aim....
i think i'm going suicidal.

Re: Flash 9 Does Not Work- Tried EVERYTHING
Heh, I'm in the exact same boat, although I can't say I'm feeling suicidal as
of yet ;) Flash was working great for me in Vista for a couple of weeks and
then one day certain sites would say I didn't have it installed and needed to
upgrade so I went over to the flash install page and ran it. It would say that
it installed successfully but then when I would go back to the previous website
it would still say I needed to upgrade. So I went through all the tasks of
uninstalling flash and reinstalling, trying the stand alone install, every tip
I could find on Adobe's help site and various forums. Nothing has worked for
me. Now I'm at the point where when I try to install flash from the website
instead of getting the successful install animation it shows quotation marks.
I read about this problem on adobe's site and tried the fix they suggested
which was basically just uninstalling and clearing your registry. Nothing. As
far as I can tell flash IS installed on my system, it's just that IE won't
recognize it. I've given full control to all the proper user accounts. Like I
said, I've done everything that I've been able to find online and I've looked
pretty extensively. I'm open to just about any suggestion at this point, short
of doing a system restore as it would be just more of a hassle then it's worth
at this point.

Re: Flash 9 Does Not Work- Tried EVERYTHING
Generally this is a permissions problem, and can be quite a pain. We're working
on making the Flash Player intaller more 'resistant' to this issue, but it
takes a long time.
Usually running SubInACL will resolve it (as the technote mentions).
Unfortunately that's not the easiest thing for everyone to do.
One thing that can be easier is searching Microsoft.com for 'SubInACL'.. They
have the tool in a download/executable format which is easier to run..

Tried running the SubInACL tool from the MS website - guess what? it still
doesnt work - pretty ridiculous i must say - when you all know what the problem
is then why cant you fix it - issue a patch or update or something

Re: Flash 9 Does Not Work- Tried EVERYTHING
Unfortunately fixing permission issues isn't that simple. Please open a
support case via http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer and we'll have
someone help you. Reply back here when you get a case number and I'll check in
on it to see how it's going.
Please keep in mind that you'll need to provide as much detail as possible.

Re: Flash 9 Does Not Work- Tried EVERYTHING
I have this same problem with Vista and will try to fix it using SubInACL, but
i've just been to the link and under system requirements it doesn't list Vista
as a supported OS. Is it OK to use with Vista - i'm a bit confused

Re: Flash 9 Does Not Work- Tried EVERYTHING
Try this first: Instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling the Flash Player:
1. First download the uninstaller to your desktop from here
http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157
2. Before running this uninstaller be sure to read the instruction and close
all running programs.
3. Open the following folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
4. Run the uninstaller
5. What files are left in this folder? C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
6. If there are files left, delete the Flash folder.
7. Install the Flash Player from here: http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer
8. Test the Flash Player here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/
If the Flash Player did not install properly, there may be a permissions issue
within your Windows Registry. Please login as the Administrator (NOT a User
with Admin privileges) and follow these instructions to open the registry.
Warning: The following solution involves the Windows System Registry. Editing
or manipulating the registry incorrectly can result in serious system damage
which may require re-installation of the operating system. If you are not
comfortable editing the registry, then take your system to a professional. If
you choose to proceed, then it is essential that you create a complete system
backup and a Windows System Restore Point before proceeding. Adobe Systems
cannot be held responsible for damage resulting from this information.
1. Select Start > Run
2. Type in ?regedit?
3. Right click on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
4. Select Permissions
5. Select Advanced
Compare your permissions with the ones in this screenshot. Reply with any
differences that you see.
http://www.supportflash.com/vista_key.png
Please do not use Microsoft?s SubInACL took unless you know for sure that the
system registry permissions is the issue. SubInACL has been used on Vista
successfully, but if you need to find out more information, like is it
officially supported on Vista, please contact Microsoft.

Re: Flash 9 Does Not Work- Tried EVERYTHING
McNast
I have un-installed boith Flash and Shockwave and removed all traces of it and
also cleaned the Registry from Flash and Shockwave keys . I have gone through
the permissions with the SubInACL, with the instructions found on the Adobe
site.
Some Flash seems to work fine, like
http://www.ovxstudios.com/ovxstudios/ovxstudios.html
whilst http://creative.com/products/popup2.asp?product=12985&nav=productDemo
just opens a new tab.
There's no difference between IE7 and Firefox.
Neither Flash nor Shockwave work

sites work and others don't. This sounds more like a Flash Player detection
schema problem. I will check these sites out on a few test machines and get
back to you.

Re: Flash 9 Does Not Work- Tried EVERYTHING
Darren.
I looked at that and found that the keys were not there. In the last attempt I
removed all traces of both the Flash and the Shockwave player from the Registry
to make sure that nothing there corrupted it. I made a copy of the Registry, of
course and imported it and the files you listed are in place. I un-installed
and re-installed but it won't work.
I thought that the installation made all the necessary additions to the
Registry, but obviously not.
Give me some new hints so we can find out what?s causing this.
Best regards
Erik

Re: Flash 9 Does Not Work- Tried EVERYTHING
Hi Erik,
I reproduced this issue by removing the same keys from a test machine. These
keys are needed for certain detections schemas that use JavaScript or VBScript.
For example, if you are missing these keys you would still be able to view
Flash on certain sites such as:
Copy and Paste - http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/
However other sites that use a specific detection schema that use these keys
would not work, such as: http://disney.com/
I am unsure as to why you would be missing these keys on a new machine. Have
you run any registry utilities such as 'RegCure' on this system?
To resolve this try importing the missing key into your system registry:
ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.9.reg
Instructions:
1. Download and unzip the following
http://www.supportflash.com/ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.9.zip
2. Open the system registry Start > Run and type in ?regedit?
3. Select File > Import and select the key ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.9.reg
4. Download and run the Flash Player uninstaller from here:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157
5. Install the Flash Player from here: http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer
6. Verify that you can view Flash content from all web pages using different
detection schemas.
For other folks reading this post, this fix is specific for Flash Player that
is working with some sites but not with other sites developed with different
Flash Player detection schemas.
Warning: The above solution involves the Windows System Registry. Editing or
manipulating the registry incorrectly can result in serious system damage which
may require re-installation of the operating system. If you are not comfortable
editing the registry, then take your system to a professional. If you choose to
proceed, then it is essential that you create a complete system backup and a
Windows System Restore Point before proceeding. Adobe Systems cannot be held
responsible for damage resulting from this information.

Re: Flash 9 Does Not Work- Tried EVERYTHING
Hi Darren.
first of all. We are not talking about a new pc. I don't know when the Flash
players gave up. It could well be after that I upgraded to IE7, whcih I do not
normally use. I use Firefox. I have used pcOnPoint regsnner for 2-3 years.
I have looked through the Reistry and arranged that all keys are there. I will
have another look at it i a copule of days. I'll be away antil next wednesday.

Hi Erik,
No worries let me know. Adding this key should resolve the detection issue you have been experiencing with certain websites.

Re: Flash 9 Does Not Work- Tried EVERYTHING
Instead of making everyone jump though all the tech hoops to resolve a problem with the newest version why doesn't adobe simply offer the FP8 download until all these issues get fixed?

Re: Flash 9 Does Not Work- Tried EVERYTHING
Hi cwfenterprises,
Note: This is not an installation issue:
This specific issue that we offered a fix for has to do with this customer
missing specific registry keys in the Windows System Registry. The fix is
simple, and that is to import the key from the link provided.
With these keys missing you would run into the same problem with all versions
of Flash Player including 8.
Adobe does offer a download for prior versions, but it is not recommended
unless you are a developer. But if you need them, you can download them from
here:
