Default Flash and Database Without PHP, CF, or ASP

I have Flash MX 2004 Professional and I was wondering if it is possible to
insert rows in a MySQL db without going through PHP, Cold Fusion or ASP.
I've been reading through google groups and it seems everyone is using one
of those as a go between from flash to the db. I have access to none of them
so I have to do it from within flash. It also seems like the RDBMSResolver
outputs XML which needs to be parsed and then sent to a db so I'm super
stuck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

no.

There's a third-party Flash product called Zinc V2 that allows direct
database connectivity, but it produces standalone executables, not swf's.

Thanks for the info soma. an exe won't work in my case so I'll have to figure something out.

I don't understand what exactly you mean by not having access, but, in any
case, PHP is free, you can download the latest version at www.php.net. Of
course, you will need to run a server - e.g. Apache is also free, latest
version available at www.apache.org. Both PHP and Apache2 are quite easy to set
up (working with two config files php.ini and httpd.conf). You can set them up
locally on your comp, do all the development using localhost, and then ask your
admin to assign you a folder on a company server.

As somaboy mx wrote, once you use third-party programs (compilers), they
change your .swf into an executable, makeing them stand-alone. It would
otherwise effect the security of Flash from the client point of view (see the
Macromedia Flash Player 7 Client-Side Security whitepaper available at Flash
Developer Center).

Also, Chapter 14 (Data Integration) of the Using Flash document gives good
idea about the architecture of Flash communicating with databases.

Hope something of this helps,

Simon.

Stop searching, googling, etc. You need server side software like PHP, ASP, CF or any of the others to connect to a database. Flash cannot connect directly.

You might be able to use the RDBMS Resolver component in Flash MX2004 Pro.

This will send XML XUpdate packets directly from Flash (as SWF) to your
database. Not sure which databases are supported (if any - maybe
BerkleyDB?).

Another option is to search for the SQLServerResolver component for flash.
I googled but couldn't find it -sorry ( but it is out there as a community
project ).

Otherwise not looking good I'm afraid :(

No. The RDBMSResolver does NOT connect to a database! It sends data to server side scripts that handle connections with a database.

Simon: I'm a sub-sub-subcontractor on this so I have no say in what technology
gets put into place and other than my swf I have no access to upload and use
extra files like php. That's what I meant.

Everyone: Thanks a bunch for your input. It was helpful and appreciated.

Cheers.
