Default Flash Button Problem

My web site was partially developed by a website developer. He missed his
deadlines and is no longer on the project. I have several buttons that were
uploaded to my server that I can download and view in dreamweaver HOWEVER.
When I go to Edit the flash Buttons in Dreamweaver MX 2004 it tells me that the
style is not available I must select another style. If I make any changes
under Edit mode it reverts my Flash Button to one of the Standard Dreamweaver
Buttons. I have the Flash Button File I want to use on my computer, I just
have no clue how to import it so it shows up on the Dreamweaver Flash Button
List.
If anyone can Help I would appreciate it greatly.

Thanks
Wil

wonka569,

That developer probably used one of the Flash button sets at the
exchange. Do a search in the DW exchange for Flash buttons and you'll
find a few results (I got 24 hits): http://www.macromedia.com/exchange/

I did a search and looked through them, I didnt see the button I am looking for
in any of them.

Is there anyway to make my own dreamweaver extension to add one button LOL??

Or is there anyway to insert that button in the list??

Like I said I have the File, I can insert the button, I even have a
functioning website with that button, I just cant edit it in my dreamweaver.

Thanks For The response

You can make your own Flash buttons, but you need Flash 5 to do it:

While it says that its for DW4, the buttons created by the above method
should also work through DWMX2004. However, if you have only the SWF
file, you can't add that button style to the Flash buttons list, as far
as I'm aware.

I have Flash MX 2004. I dont belive that article will help me with Flash MX
2004, the directions it gives dont seem to be compatable with my version. Also
note that the Button File I want to use is a .SWT File and NOT a .SWF.
I am not tottally sure if that matters. Any other Ideas??

Thank You for your time and your responces.

You are correct, you have to have Flash 5 to do it.

If you have the .SWT file from the developer, then you may be able to
place the file here, then restart DW:
C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver MX 2004\Configuration\Flash
Objects\Flash Buttons\

Or if you're on a mac, then the path might be something like:
HD:Applications:Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004:Configuration:Flash
Objects:Flash Buttons

Hey that was a good Idea I thought it was going to work, I moved the File over
and it is the same exact type as all the other Flash Buttons in that Folder.
But when I restart Dreamweaver (even Restart My Computer) it STILL doesnt
recognize the button. Is there some problem with Dreamweavers ability to
change the TEXT and Background Color on that Button??? Is there maybe another
process to go through??

Thank You For all of your help

wonka569,

Sorry, can't help at this point.

Perhaps the SWT doesn't have the built in editable ares that DW needs to
see, not sure as I'm not a Flash person. Maybe you need to get the
original .FLA file to work from, or start over with another flash button
or do it in an image with roll overs instead.

Default Flash Button Problem

Hello All
As I want to create a fom for some user to do some registration, I know the
easliest method to use is INSERT > FORM OBJECT > BUTTON, that will pass the
form textbox value (variable) to next page via the POST method, but as I use
Flash button, how can I get the user entered value in next page.

THX.
