Flash Component Redraw Issue MX2004 - Macromedia Director Basics

Hey there Director community: I've been using Director since v8.0 and not only use it to create educational software but i also teach a Director class at the University of Massachusetts. While looking at a student's project i noticed that sometimes the Flash component buttons stay on the screen when jumping from frame to frame. There's nothing fancy going on (puppetSprite or sprite visibility) just straight up navigation. When looking at the dir and navigating through the project (it's a choose your own adventure story) sometimes the buttons from the previous scene stay drawn on the stage. If i stop ...

Default Flash Component Redraw Issue MX2004

    Hey there Director community:

I've been using Director since v8.0 and not only use it to create educational
software but i also teach a Director class at the University of Massachusetts.
While looking at a student's project i noticed that sometimes the Flash
component buttons stay on the screen when jumping from frame to frame. There's
nothing fancy going on (puppetSprite or sprite visibility) just straight up
navigation. When looking at the dir and navigating through the project (it's a
choose your own adventure story) sometimes the buttons from the previous scene
stay drawn on the stage. If i stop the movie, the button sprite is not in the
score and if you click on it it disappears (like a puppeted sprite would). Is
this a commonPlayer or directToStage issue? Has anyone else noticed anything
    of the sort?

    Hi Mike,

Yes, Flash Components have a direct to stage property. It works, or
not, pretty much the same as digital video and text members. Some video
cards are more susceptible to this problem than others.

Just follow the same practice with Flash Components' direct to stage as
you do with digital video members.

Just as a comment, watch out with the new Director features vocabulary and
make a clear difference between Flash Components and Flash Members. By Flash
Components I think you are talking about "Flash Members" which by DMX2004 is
very different . The Flash Component engine is now fully supported on its
own. There are 3 main types of Flash objects you can now dea with in
DMX04... Flash Movies, Flash Components and Script Objects. So Flash Members
are about common movies, Flash Component Members are about specific Flash
Components and Script Objects are pieces of Action Script code now accesible
though Director (lingo/JS). I understand you are using Director 8 but I
think it is important to use actual terms so students might not get confused
    when graduating. :)
