Flash Player 9 inlcude a Standalone Plaer?
This continues to be a point of confusion for me... if I install Flash Player 9
do I get a player that works in IE and freestanding? Is there a different
player I need for freestanding playing?
Internet Explorer seems to come standard with Flash player but the
freestanding player seems to be something more. Or am I confused?
Various searches have not answered my question.
Thanks for your help!

Hi JohnLinn,
No the ActiveX installer does not install a stand alone player.
Try opening the SWF in a browser. Right click and select the browser you want to view the SWF in.

Re: Flash Player 9 inlcude a Standalone Plaer?
Darren,
Thank you for your response... I understand that the Flash animation will play
in the browser but sometime I do want it to play outside the browser....
The the question is, where and how do I install a stand alone player? I see
stand alone players for Linux and Mac but where is the player for Windows?
Thanks,
John.

effectively a standalone player (with some extras).

Also, if you have Flash installed it also installs a stand alone application.

Re: Flash Player 9 inlcude a Standalone Plaer?
I have Flash on my work machine (and the stand alone player) but not on my home
machine... and it would be convenient for some clients to have the free
standing player because not all work is designed to play in a browser.
So are you saying the only way to have a free standing player is to have Flash
installed on your machine? That does not sound right.
Why is this question so difficult to answer?
Is there a stand alone Flash player for Windows that can be downloaded
free? Anyone know?
Thanks to all!

Hi JohnLinn,
I understand. You can publish as a projector file from Flash.

Re: Flash Player 9 inlcude a Standalone Plaer?
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
However it seems no one can answer the question...
Is there a stand alone Flash player for Windows that can be downloaded
free? Anyone know?
A simple yes or no would be helpful. If yes, a link would be very helpful.
Thanks!
John

Re: Flash Player 9 inlcude a Standalone Plaer?
There is no stand alone Flash player for Windows, unless you have Flash installed. Exporting as a projector file is the best work around.

Re: Flash Player 9 inlcude a Standalone Plaer?
Darren,
Thank you for answering the question. This is very interesting.
I am well aware that you can publish as a projector file but it then becomes a
..exe file which most corporate email systems will not pass (for security
protection and virus avoidance). One way to get around that is to zip the
attachment but some email systems don't like those either and it is just a lot
of messing about for something simple.
There are also good reasons not to pay Flash in a web browser? if you are
developing a presentation or demo that you want to eliminate the browser look
and feel and more easily control the window.
So I am surprised but really thankful that I have finally gotten a clear
answer.
Thanks again,
John

Re: Flash Player 9 inlcude a Standalone Plaer?
Hi John,
I understand your insight into this and I wish I could offer you a better
solution. Currently the stand alone player is not available for Windows but
maybe one day it will be.
So you can publish as a projector of a HTML file or use a third party
application such as Zinc

Turn your SWF into an Apollo AIR file and send that instead of the SWF.
