Default Flash Player 9 just stopped working and won't reinstall

I am running Firefox on a MacBook (Intel Core 2 Duo, OS X v. 10.4.9).

One minute, my Flash Player was working just fine and the next minute I start
getting messages that I need to install the plug-in. I have repeatedly tried
installing, uninstalling, restarting, reinstalling, etc. several times and I
still get the same message.

I looked in the 'plugins' folder for Firefox and I don't even see the Flash
plugin. It's also not working in Safari. Please help me get this thing working.

The plug-ins normally live in /Library/Internet Plug-ins. They're called Flash
Player.plugin and flashplayer.xpt. Do you have these files. Can you check in
the Internet Plug-ins folder in your home directory? If the files are there,
try moving them out of the plug-ins folder and then reinstall again (I'm
thinking that maybe the installer's seeing them and not replacing them as a
result). Let us know how you get on!

Thanks for responding. I took "Flash Player.plugin" and "flashplayer.xpt" out
of the Internet Plugins folder and put them on the desktop. I ran the installer
and when it tried to install "flashplayer.xpt" It said "Error Creating File:
1008:5,-5000 Access Denied Error" then followed immediately with "You do not
have enough access privileges for this installation." I only have one user
account on this computer and it's an Admin account so that really doesn't make
any sense.

After I got that message, I tried also taking out "Flash Player
Enabler.plugin" and got the same message. Then I tried Uninstalling,
Restarting, and Reinstalling. Same thing happened.

I put the files back where they were.

There's a tech doc which covers this error message:
http://www.adobe.com/go/4aa64290 Might be worth have a look and trying out the
solutions given in there, though the issue seems to be related to installing
Firefox under a different user account to the one currently running, so it
might not be the exact same issue. Still, worth a try! Otherwise, I guess it
would be prudent to try running Disk Utility and get it to check for
permissions problems and finally, maybe try temporarily creating a new admin
account and see if the installer will work from there. Hope this helps!

Good news! I ran Disk Utility like you said and there were some permission problems. As soon as I repaired those, the installer worked fine! Thanks so much for your help.
