hi I just bought imac with intel I can not access sites with flash content

I tried to download te update suggested by Macromedia: Flash Player Universal
Binanry. I was instructed to replace original plugin by copying download to
folder, this has not replaced plug in but now I have both the orginal plug in
and the one I just downloaded in file.
Should I just delete former plug in? or is there an unistall process?
Is anyone using FPUB?/ intel mac?
