Font and possibly crashing issue fix for Illustrator CS and Suitcase X1 users
First time contributor, long time reader of these forums. The issue is without a doubt on the Extensis side of things. First thing is to eliminate Suitcase from your start up items and quit the application. Then remove the Auto Activation Plug-In for both Illustrator CS and InDesign CS. Next is to use Apple's Font Book. It is set up a lot like Suitcases. Add the fonts you use or all if you like. Quit Font Book and set up as a startup item, and restart. When you restart, all CS apps should be fine. I have only toyed with Font Book a little and I am not sure of its usefulness, but until Extensis fixes the problem, it is a viable solution. Also, a little side note here; all the "updates" on Extensis' site don't work either. They are still working on a fix.
Now it only took me 2 days to figure all this out and I must rebut Adobe about their fantastic new type engine. They say the old one was a dinosaur and beyond its usefulness. I never had issue with the now "legacy text". The way I see it you don't go reinventing the wheel, you adapt it, which is something that Adobe FAILED to do with their text engine.
I'm done.

What is the problem that you are experiencing with Suitcase? I (and 4 others I work with) use both Suitcase X1 and Ill CS together with no problems. Suitcase seems much better than Font Book in my experience.

Re: Font and possibly crashing issue fix for Illustrator CS and Suitcase X1 users
Jason,
Are you running Panther? I think the combination of CS with Panther and Suitcase may be to blame. All I know is that my Illustrator crashing and font woes with Suitcase active are now gone with Suitcase completely deactivated. I have tried to find ways to keep Suitcase active but with no avail. Believe me Suitcase is a marvelous tool and I would like to have it active but it really has just resulted in headaches. Extensis openly admits that there are problems with some of its apps and Panther.

Re: Font and possibly crashing issue fix for Illustrator CS and Suitcase X1 users
Al,
Yeah we are running Panther here, 10.3.3 on a couple different G4's. We only have Ill CS installed, not any other CS apps. Illustrator runs very solid, very few/none crashes. Suitcase runs smooth, the Auto-Activator works great. I know this dosen't help you much though...

From readings here I've decided that Font Agent Pro is the way to go.
Is this correct?
