    Macaroni <http://www.atomicbird.com/> is a fantastic utility and helps keep my Mac running smoothly: I've requested that they think about incorporating cache cleaning into its list of operations.

    This is the reply from the producers of Macaroni, received today:

    It's a very frequent request, so we're planning on this. However at the
    moment I can't say how soon it'll be available.

    Onyx's latest version (ver. 1.7.4) cleans font caches and has many more functions. And it's free.
    <http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html>

    Here's what it says:

    About OnyX
    A maintenance, optimization, and personalization utility for Mac OS X. It allows you to run misc tasks of system maintenance, to configure certain hidden parameters of the Finder, Dock, Safari, Dashboard, Expose, Disk Utility... to delete cache, to remove a certain number of files and folders that may become cumbersome, to see the detailed info of your configuration, to preview the different logs and CrashReporter reports, and more.

    What’s New in this Version
    - Option “Reset links between documents and applications” removed. (this reset be done while rebuilding the LaunchServices database)
    - Bug which deletes the favorites of Cyberduck corrected
    - Polish Localization

    Macaroni's great advantage is that it runs automatically in the background; does Onyx or Cocktail these days? Not that it's any big deal but it seems to prevent problems occurring, rather than the user having to remember to run a particular program, often after problems have highlighted the need for maintenance.

    I have used in Onyx and Cocktail in years gone by (they were user-initiated when I used them) and they're both very good programs but, since I installed Macaroni, my machine has definitely been more stable than previously.

    I'm having lots of problems lately with fonts/InDesign, etc after the latest Apple update (10.4.8)

    Does MacJanitor clean font cache?

    Is there not a manual way to do this? I have never heard of clearing font cache and I'm a very heavy font switcher/user/auto activator so I'm in emergency mode now. I think I'm in SERIOUS need of a font cache cleaning. I use MacJanitor all the time but I'm not even totally sure what the heck it does.

    Try font finagler or search for adobefnt.xx. Delete them all EXCEPT adobefnt.db which the system needs.
